This experimental piece explores the themes of linkage, relationships, and the tension between movement and stillness. Set against the backdrop of Hong Kong, a city defined by its dense network of bridges, the work uses these structures as metaphors for the myriad connections people navigate in life. Bridges serve as pathways, allowing individuals to associate with different parts of the world, both physically and emotionally.
In the aftermath of the 2019 social movements, a significant number of Hongkongers began seeking alternative living environments abroad. The Tsing Ma Bridge becomes a central metaphor in this work, symbolising discretion, transition, and the fluidity of people passing through a place. Yet bridges are not limited to their physical function; they also represent invisible linkages, between families, individuals, and the shifting power dynamics across regions and nations.
As these forces increasingly infiltrate everyday life, the work reflects on the paradox of proximity and resistance. The closer one draws to these entanglements, the more potent the urge to withdraw becomes.
