Archipelaging

Performance
2025

Archipelagoing is a performance-based inquiry into the ontology of "continuous becoming" between Po-yun Kuo and Ma Pak Yin. Utilizing the archipelago as a philosophical archetype, the project explores the philosophy of the gap. They define the island as a site of self-sufficiency and the surrounding aquatic strata, tides and currents, as catalysts for drift and non-linear interconnection. This work reclaims the archipelago as a dynamic, woven network, prioritizing the generative potential of interstitial spaces over static landmasses.
By translating topographical tension into "behavioral geography," the project confronts the existential friction of forced aggregation and choreographed societal pathways. They investigate how internal boundaries are maintained against a monolithic, homogeneous spectacle. Archipelagoing acts as a poetic intervention against the rigid definitions of centralized grand narratives. Through the body’s micro-deviations, they anchor a cultural identity that remains fluid, polysemic, and perpetually unfixed, challenging the solidification of the self in an increasingly controlled global landscape.
